In an era of rapid technological advancements and increasing global competition, the European Union has identified ten critical technology areas essential for economic security, strategic autonomy, and industrial resilience. These technologies, particularly highlighting artificial intelligence, advanced semiconductors, quantum technologies, and biotechnologies, are drivers of innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability. However, their successful development and deployment require strong ecosystems, cross-sectoral collaboration, and effective support mechanisms for SMEs and industrial actors.
To do this, cluster organisations, as facilitators of innovation and cooperation, can support companies in the adoption, scaling, and commercialisation of these technologies. By fostering knowledge exchange, access to funding, skills development, and strategic partnerships, clusters help SMEs and industry leaders navigate complex value chains, comply with evolving regulatory frameworks, and enhance Europe’s technological sovereignty.
The European Cluster Collaboration Platform, on behalf of the European Commission, organised the EU Clusters Talk "Europe’s Technological Future: Driving Innovation for Economic Security" on 26 February, 8:30 – 9:45 CET, to explore how clusters support the technological advancements in Europe, discuss needed support mechanisms for companies, and give an outlook to future development in the critical technology areas.

This event is part of regular online meetings brought to the cluster community by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform.
