Green Transition Business Competition
Biocluster Finland is driving the green, digital, and social transition by fostering business and innovation development in Finland, helping companies thrive and grow sustainably. The cluster operates within the broader European cluster network and includes a large number of companies, financiers and research and development organizations.
One key initiative is the Green Transition Business Competition, which was first held in 2023 and has since become an annual event. The Green Transition Business Competition recognizes innovative, growth-oriented Finnish companies and startups that offer environmentally friendly products or services. This competition showcases Finnish expertise and entrepreneurship in sustainable development, driven by the premise that environmentally responsible businesses enhance competitiveness and self-sufficiency. The competition is open to companies from all sectors of the economy.
The top 10 finalists, along with the winner, are announced at Biocluster Finland’s annual Green Transition Gala. The finalists receive significant benefits, including valuable media exposure and access to funding opportunities. Highlighting their achievements further serves to demonstrate that environmentally sustainable business practices can provide a competitive advantage. This can inspire and motivate other cluster members to pursue similar initiatives.
In 2024, the award was presented to Hycamite TCD Technologies Ltd, a company that produces clean hydrogen and industrial-grade solid carbon using proprietary zero-emission technology to split methane. The evaluation criteria of the competition were innovativeness, growth potential, implementation ability and environmental impact. The competition’s jury consisted of representatives from Finnvera, a state-owned financing company; Taaleri, a Finnish investment and asset management group; various research institutes; and Business Finland, a government agency supporting the growth, innovation, and internationalization of Finnish businesses.
